A nonprofit that serves homeless residents is opening two new thrift stores in the area.
Mel Trotter Ministries opened a 10,000-square-foot store last month in Lowell, at 2111 W. Main St.
The nonprofit will also open a 10,000-square-foot store on Nov. 20 in Belding, at 363 E. State St.
Mel Trotter has two other stores in Jenison and Sparta.
The stores sell “gently used” items, such as clothing, furniture and household items.
All profits from the stores go directly toward the nonprofit’s annual budget.
Met Trotter also offers gift cards to local churches that can be used by members in need.
The Lowell store was a former grocery store, and the Belding store was a former Goodwill, so they required minimal renovations, Mel Trotter said.
Each store will employ 10 people.
