A Michigan-based sporting goods store has two community events planned this month.

Gazelle Sports is set to host a 10K race along the lakeshore and a free community running event followed by an ice cream social in Grand Rapids.

The Road-Trail-Sand (RTS) race, a 20-year tradition, will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 16, and kick off at the intersection of 142nd Avenue and 66th Street in Laketown Township.

Dubbed “the toughest race you’ll ever love,” the Lake Michigan RTS course travels along the Lake Michigan shoreline, incorporating rural roads, wooded trails and a sand dune climb.

The cost to enter is $55 per participant, with proceeds benefitting the Pediatric Oncology Resource Team through the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Foundation. More information is here.

Gazelle Sports also will host the Run Happy with Brooks & Ice Cream Social event as part of its Downtown Grand Rapids Grand Opening Summer Series.

The free walk/run begins at 6 p.m. after check-in at 5:30 p.m. at the retailer’s new Grand Rapids location, 52 Monroe Center St. NW.

In addition to the approximate 3-mile route, participants have the opportunity to test shoes from Brooks and enjoy ice cream treats from Kilwins.

Gazelle Sports will keep the location open for extended hours until 9 p.m. and will offer special discounts on in-store purchases that evening. More information is available here.

Founded in Kalamazoo in 1985, Gazelle Sports today has locations in Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, Northville and Birmingham.
