St. Cecilia releases Acoustic Café lineup

A local performance center unveiled its 2022-23 folk series.

St. Cecilia Music Center (SCMC) released its Acoustic Café Folk Series, a partnership with the Acoustic Café Radio Show, for the 2022-23 season, including dates with Janis Ian, The Wood Brothers and Mat Kearney.

Ian will kick off the series with a performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, as part of her 2022 “Final North American Tour,” her farewell tour as she retires from her decadeslong musical career at the age of 70. She will perform from her most recent album, “The Light at the End of the Line,” her first new material in 15 years. 

The Wood Brothers will appear at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27. The folk band’s seventh studio release, “Kingdom in My Mind,” released in January 2020, has been hailed as the band’s “career-defining album,” by Blurt magazine. The band’s 2018 album, ‘’One Drop of Truth,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and garnered the band a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Americana Album.”

Matt Kearney will make an appearance with an acoustic trio at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, performing songs from his latest album, “January Flower.”

“The Acoustic Café Folk Series has become a very popular set of concerts at SCMC, with most shows selling out,” said. St. Cecilia Music Center Executive and Artistic Director Cathy Holbrook. “I’m thrilled to announce the new lineup for this coming season — exciting bands and singer/songwriters from legendary folk artists to bluegrass heroes. We are also pleased to continue our partnership with the Acoustic Café Radio Show and its host Rob Reinhart for this fabulous series.”

Tickets for folk series concerts go on sale at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19. More Acoustic Café shows will be announced throughout the season.
