Study: Michigan makeup spending rose 23% during pandemic

According to Ibotta, a cashback platform that tracks spending habits across the United States, Michigan’s spending on makeup at big box stores grew 23% year over year.

Ibotta compared data from June-December 2020 to data from June-December 2019.

While the national average is down by 5%, some states have seen surges in their spending — Washington D.C. increased its makeup spending by 89%. Vermont had the largest decrease at 35%, followed by Alaska at 34%.

The top five states:

  1. Kansas, 58%
  2. Texas, 35%
  3. California, 25%
  4. New Mexico, 24%
  5. North Dakota and Michigan, 23%

The bottom five states:

  1. Oregon, -18%
  2. Maine, -23%
  3. West Virginia, -26%
  4. Alaska, -34%
  5. Vermont, -35%
