A new type of arcade is open in Grand Rapids for gamers who want to amp up the experience.
Amped Reality, a new virtual reality gaming studio, now is open at 2923 28th St. SE.
The 3,800-square-foot space features 28 VR stations, 12 of which are for stand-up, action-oriented games, and 16 of which are sit-down for more casual gaming experiences. There also is a party room available for birthdays and corporate events.
Amped Reality is co-owned by husband and wife Greg and Melissa Wander. Previously employed in the automotive Industry, Greg Wander got into VR because he wanted to be able to spend more time with his children. They were very interested into VR gaming, he said, and he was captivated by the potential of the technology.
Prior to opening a physical location, the family had been doing mall demos where shoppers could try out the hardware.
“Seeing people laughing and smiling, and being able to do this with my family, you can’t beat it,” he said.
Amped Reality keeps a substantial library of VR titles, including sports, diving and hiking simulators, as well as shooters, brawlers and puzzles.
Sessions are hourly, and group rates apply for parties of 10 or more. Amped Reality also offers monthly memberships where members can play at half price.
Amped Reality is open 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-midnight, Friday and Saturday, and noon-6 p.m. on Sunday.
