A local entrepreneur is promoting a better quality of life for hairstylists.

Beth Garner is the owner of two My Salon Suite franchises: one at 2660 44th St. SW in Grandville and another at 3582 29th St. SE in Kentwood.

As a previous owner of her own salon, Garner said it was challenging to work 60 hours a week and spend time with her husband and two kids.

“It was really defeating, and in my head, I thought I would be done doing hair,” Garner said. “It was just too much.”

Garner found the My Salon Suite Kentwood location and decided she wanted to pursue business ownership within a suite. She was able to cut back on hours and spend more time with her kids, which she said was important to her.

Garner purchased that franchise in 2019 and opened the new Grandville location in 2021 after seeing a need for better opportunities for stylists in that area, she said.

She said she hopes to help other stylists understand the benefits and resources available with a My Salon membership.

“It’s really exciting being able to help other stylists (who are) where I once was in my career,” Garner said. “I want to help them transition into having a better quality of life and working hours that are sustainable.”

Garner said she also plans to open a third location before the end of 2022.
