Private suites for salon or spa professionals now are available to rent in Grandville thanks to the expansion of The Indi Suites.
Karra Kalkman, a hair stylist and owner of The Indi Suites, and her business partner and co-owner Janelle Goltz, are opening a second location of The Indi Suites in the Grandville Marketplace, at 4585 Canal Ave. SW, on Friday, Nov. 19.
The duo will host a grand opening celebration with a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. and a public open house until 7 p.m.
Kalkman opened The Indi Suites’ first location in 2019 at The Shops at Westshore, at 12331 James St., Suite 40, in Holland.
“My vision to open The Indi Suites came from a void in the Holland salon market to move beyond being an employee or just renting a chair,” Kalkman said. “As a fellow stylist myself, I aim to champion entrepreneurship so our professionals can take charge of their careers to retain all their profits, pay less overhead and set their own schedules to best service their customers. Our expansion to Grandville allows more salon professionals to achieve their dreams, and we are thrilled to play a small role in their future success.”
The Indi Suites offers salon suites or “mini salons” to beauty and spa professionals looking for autonomy and a low-risk solution to become a business owner. The Indi Suites allows professionals to work together under the same roof in a commercial space and foster collaboration, community, referrals and sense of belonging, Kalkman said.
Goltz originally was one of Kalkman’s tenants at the Holland location. Less than a year after opening, Kalkman shared her plans to open another location, and Goltz was all in.
“I am filled with such joy to see more industry professionals become their own bosses,” Goltz said. “There is high turnover in this business, as many non-industry investors serve as owners. The difference with The Indi Suites is we have walked in our tenants’ shoes and have the expertise to be part of the positive salon experience in West Michigan.”
Salon professionals pay The Indi Suites a weekly sum to rent a private space instead of working in a commissioned salon or in conventional chair rentals.
The suites offer natural light, styling chairs, shampoo bowls, cabinets, Wi-Fi, laundry, a large break room, client waiting areas, beverage bar, processing pods, and private parking and a private entrance.
The setup includes 25 single or shared double suites with flexible lease options for stylists, barbers, nail technicians, medical estheticians, and brow and lash artists.
Kalkman and Goltz now are taking tenant lease inquiries and are offering complimentary rent for the month of November.
