The co-founders of a West Side restaurant sold their managing shares, and the establishment is now majority woman-owned.
One Bourbon, located at 608 Bridge St. NW on Grand Rapids’ West Side and celebrating its fifth anniversary this month, said Monday, April 4, its co-founding partners George and Meg Chittenden sold their managing shares to business partners Brett and Megan Freriks “to focus on family and new endeavors.”
Meagan Freriks now is the majority shareholder, making the establishment a majority woman-owned and -operated venture.
“We are proud of what we have built at One Bourbon … but it’s time for us to pass the torch to Meagan,” said George Chittenden, former executive chef and managing partner. “We can’t wait to be their biggest supporters.”
Since its inception in April 2017, One Bourbon has leaned into its slogan, “Beer City is missing the bourbon.” The business worked through the challenges of the pandemic to continue bringing its unique niche to the Grand Rapids food and beverage scene.
“George and Meg are like our family and are excited for their next adventure,” said Meagan Freriks, managing and operating partner. “We are eager to show the next phase of One Bourbon, taking our stellar guests, fans and team into creative new growth with big plans for the future.”
One Bourbon serves over 200 bourbon and whiskey drinks and American comfort food.
Freriks said she plans to expand the food menu in the coming months to include a larger selection of appetizers and shareables, as well as happy hour food specials, while keeping customer favorites such as cheese curds and the Bourbon Burger.
The cocktail and whiskey program will expand with more single barrel whiskey options; creative, special events; and spirit-forward libations.
She plans to revamp the private patio and dining spaces, as well.
