Here’s an honest question: Could you eat tacos every day for a week? What about twice a day? And would you do it for a chance to win $500 in gift cards?

If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then you’re in luck. Grand Rapids Taco Week kicks off today, Oct. 12, and it’s giving you a pretty delicious reason to get out of the house.

Here’s how it works. First, download the Taco Week app at grtacoweek.com. Then start eating $3 tacos at participating restaurants and checking in through the app. That’s it. You earn points with every check-in, and whoever racks up the most points by the end of the week will be crowned the Biggest Taco Lover in Grand Rapids and win $500 in gift cards.

Watch the Taco Week segment with Fox 17 Morning Mix host Michelle Dunaway, Grand Rapids Magazine Editor-In-Chief Lisa Enos, and Barrio’s Donny Stepic HERE.

Think you can’t possibly eat your way to the top? No worries. Check in at four or more participating restaurants and you’ll be entered into a separate drawing for another prize. So even if your taco appetite has its limits, you still have a shot at winning something.

But honestly, the best part of Taco Week isn’t necessarily winning. It’s finding your next favorite taco.

The participating restaurants are scattered all over the Grand Rapids area, which makes this a good excuse to venture beyond your usual takeout order. Head to Rockford for F ’n K Tacos, serving East L.A.-style street tacos. Visit El Globo, which has locations on South Division and the Beltline. Stop by Tamales Mary in Eastown or track down its food truck. Or make your way to La Jefa Taqueria in Wyoming, The Holiday Bar on the northwest side, Barrio downtown or Condado Tacos & Tequila at Breton Village or on Bridge Street.

Each restaurant is putting its own spin on the taco with a special $3 offering. There is one small catch: You have to order at least three tacos. Can’t eat that many? Bring a friend, or take a couple home. We won’t judge. The idea is to celebrate Grand Rapids’ creative food scene, get people out trying new places and give taco fans a reason to explore a little farther than they might on an ordinary Tuesday.

You can map out your stops, challenge your taste buds and share your taco discoveries with fellow fans. Just be warned: Planning a week around tacos can get surprisingly serious. How many stops can you fit into a day? How far are you willing to travel for a really good taco? And how many tacos is too many tacos?

We’ll leave that last question to you.

Grand Rapids Taco Week runs Oct. 12–18. Download the app, find the participating restaurants and get your taco tour started.
