A Heart of West Michigan United Way initiative will offer at-home, outdoor improvement services to local veterans and military families.

The organization is accepting applications and nominations of Kent County military members and families online through March 25 for its Operation United for Veterans Project. The initiative, which focuses on seniors and those suffering from disabilities, will mobilize volunteer teams to facilitate projects such as refuse removal, mulching, tree planting and lawn mowing.

Services will be available to veterans, active-duty service members and military spouses at no charge.

Applicants must be Kent County residents and be available for a brief site visit in March. Veterans of a family member or representative must be at the home during the event.
