Meijer is inviting local artists to share their talents.
Artists who live in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin can submit their artworks, which may be featured on the retailer’s limited-edition merchandise, such as stationery and home décor items, beginning in 2023.
“At Meijer, we want our products and business partners to reflect our communities, customers and team members,” said Peter Whitsett, Meijer executive vice president of merchandising and marketing. “That’s what makes this collection so special. Our customers will see perspectives both similar to and different from their own reflected through art on products they can bring into their homes.”
Artworks must be inspired by Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Pride Month or Hispanic Heritage Month, and they will be sold in celebration of those cultural events. Additionally, artists may submit art inspired by their local communities that will be sold throughout the year.”
Artists must submit their work for consideration by Nov. 7, and Meijer will later select different artworks. The selected artists will receive a monetary prize. They will also partner with Meijer to identify nonprofits to benefit from the sales of the products.
“We’re excited to support local artists by offering a platform for their work to reach thousands of customers and homes across the Midwest,” said Meijer Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion Tim Williams.
