East Grand Rapids to host 37th annual triathlon/duathlon

The 37th annual Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon/Duathlon will be held at 8 a.m. Sept. 11 at John Collins Park, 650 Lakeside Drive SE in East Grand Rapids.

The triathlon will include a 750-meter swim in Reeds Lake, a 20-kilometer bike ride and a 5K run. There will be age divisions for men and women: 14-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 and up.

“Over the years, the triathlon has become a favorite community event and tradition for so many athletes,” said Betsy Granstra, race director. “We are delighted to welcome professional and amateur triathletes back to East Grand Rapids to put their skills to the test after a year away due to the pandemic.”

There will be post-race refreshments for participants at the Gerken Plaza (EGR football stadium), 701 Lakeside Drive SE. Awards will be given out at Wege Plaza, 750 Lakeside Drive SE.

Participants can register online at East Grand Rapids’ website or visit the Parks and Recreation Department, 750 Lakeside Drive SE from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday or during packet pickup from 12:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 or 6:30-7:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Parks and Recreation Department.
