A Kentwood distillery is gaining major recognition.
Wise Men Distillery is racking up the awards and getting its name out there through some key business ventures. Wise Men’s vodka recently was named Best in Class Vodka at the 2019 Craft Distillers Spirits Competition.
The local distillery’s vodka was judged by leading industry professionals ranking the best submissions in each class. Wise Men also received silver medals for its Red Tape Series Rum, White Whiskey, Gin and Apple Pie Moonshine.
Wise Men Distillery also announced as of February it will enter statewide distribution through Great Lakes Wine and Spirits.
The distillery is finalizing plans for a 700-square-foot tasting room on the main floor of McKay Tower, 146 Monroe Center in downtown Grand Rapids. The Grand Rapids Planning Commission is expected to review its request for a Special Land Use Permit for Serving Alcohol this month.
“A downtown Grand Rapids tasting room is closer to a reality, we have a great new distributor and our products continue to draw the attention of the spirits industry; it’s just a really exciting time for Wise Men Distillery,” said Tom Borisch, who along with Jason Post and Zack Van Dyke co-own Wise Men Distillery.
Wise Men, which opened its Kentwood distillery and tasting room in May 2019, continues to draw notice for its products from national and international competition.
Last fall, its Apple Pie Moonshine captured a silver medal and its vodka won a bronze medal at the 11th annual San Diego Spirits Festival. In June, the distillery won a number of awards, including Michigan Rum Distillery of the Year at the 2019 New York International Spirits Competition.
