The contemporary French bistro inside the JW Marriott Grand Rapids reopened for indoor dining Thursday.
Margaux, located on the first floor of the upscale downtown Grand Rapids hotel, is once again open for lunch, brunch and dinner, with a “refreshed design” and new menus.
“We are excited to open Margaux, the JW Marriott Grand Rapids’ sophisticated French bistro, for indoor dining as of Oct. 1 in accordance with local health and safety guidelines,” said Elle Wadel, general manager of Margaux. “With a revitalized, contemporary design and fresh new food and drink options, Margaux will once again bring European flair to the Grand Rapids dining scene.”
Margaux strives to offer an “approachable yet authentic” dining experience inspired by the red wine regions in the south of France.
Executive chef Todd Webb’s curated menu melds traditional French cuisine with a modern approach with menu items like escargot à la bourguignonne, croque-monsieur and baba au rhum. Webb focuses on locally sourced ingredients and flavor profiles aligned with the classic French experience, and the menu also highlights the agricultural diversity of Michigan.
The restaurant’s interiors boast a modern-yet-comfortable Parisian aesthetic with velvet and tufted upholstery, exposed gray brick, brushed metal finishes, dramatic draping and a sleek marble bar.
New menu items include short rib à la Bourguignonne, a red-wine braised beef short rib with carrots, pearl onions, button mushrooms, bacon lardon and potato purée; a classic steak frites café de Paris, or charred strip steak with black truffle fries and herb butter; and a Scottish salmon wrapped in flaky pastry in a white wine sauce.
In addition to the restaurant’s extensive wine list, new cocktails include the Eiffel Tower, with Stoli vodka, St. George spiced pear, honey, lime and sparkling wine; and Vieux Carre, made with Rittenhouse rye, Courvoisier, Dolin sweet vermouth, Benedictine, Angostura and Peychaud’s bitters.
Margaux is open for lunch 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner 5-10 p.m. Monday-Friday, as well as brunch 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and dinner 5-10 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. The lounge at Margaux is open until midnight on weekends.
