A locally based ice cream maker is releasing a new flavor and bringing back a prior favorite in celebration of summer.

The Holland-based ice cream maker said Wednesday that it has begun selling the limited-edition flavors Blueberry Cobbler — introduced last summer — and American Fireworks, a new flavor.

American Fireworks and Blueberry Cobbler already are in freezer aisles with more widespread availability expected by mid-May, the company said. The flavors are available while inventory lasts.

Blueberry Cobbler features a rich and creamy vanilla ice cream swirled with Michigan blueberry sauce and sugar-dusted pie crust pieces.

American Fireworks has a sweet and sour ice cream base, mixed with ribbons of sour cherry swirl and a never-before-used ingredient from Hudsonville: blue popping candy.

“Ice cream is a summertime staple, and this year’s two seasonal limited-edition flavors are an incredible addition to any summer activity you have planned,” said Rachel Messingschlager, marketing manager for Hudsonville Ice Cream.

“No matter what this summer brings, ice cream helps to make every moment sweeter. We know it’s going to be more important than ever to create new memories and traditions with the people we love, and we can’t wait to see how these flavors become part of those memories.”
