A local ice cream maker is hosting its largest single-day giveaway in its history to celebrate “Pint Day” this weekend.

Holland-based Hudsonville Ice Cream said Tuesday it will give away 25,000 free pints of ice cream to mark the holiday it created in 2019 to celebrate its ice cream pint-sized flavors.

The Pint Day giveaway will begin Sunday morning. Details on how to claim one of 25,000 free pints will be available on Hudsonville’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

As part of the countdown to Pint Day, Hudsonville Ice Cream also added two new flavors to its pint lineup — Caramel Coffee Chip in the Extra Indulgent lineup, which mixes coffee ice cream with mini chocolate flakes and a dulce de leche swirl; and Toasted Coconut to its dairy-free lineup, which is a coconut flavored, nondairy dessert with dairy-free chocolate covered toasted coconut pieces.

Both flavors will be available in stores later this spring.

“We created Pint Day because there needed to be a holiday to celebrate this popular ice cream container, and the special flavors we make that are only available in a pint,” said Rachel Messingschlager, marketing director for Hudsonville Ice Cream. “Hosting a huge giveaway of 25,000 pints honors this holiday and gives us an opportunity to celebrate with our fans who continue to support Hudsonville after 95 years. Releasing new flavors is just the cherry on top of the celebration, and we hope our fans are just as excited as we are about these two highly requested, delicious flavors.”

Hudsonville pints can be found throughout the Midwest, including all 240-plus Meijer stores and Michigan-based Kroger and SpartanNash locations such as Family Fare and D&W Fresh Market.

People can visit Hudsonville Ice Cream’s website to find a nearby store that sells the pints.
