Grand Rapids’ dining scene is buzzing like never before. While restaurants nationwide have faced unprecedented challenges—from pandemic shutdowns to shifting consumer habits—our city proves that creativity, flavor, and bold new concepts are alive and thriving. Over the past year, we’ve scoped out the hottest openings, from innovative bistros to authentic global cuisine, and we’re excited to share what’s catching our attention.
This week, our spotlight lands on Prime Casual Steakhouse in Comstock Park, 3874 W. River Drive NE, a place that’s redefining what a steakhouse can be. With approachable prices, top-notch cuts, and a menu designed to impress without intimidating, it’s one that belongs on every steak lover’s bucket list. And that’s just the beginning—Grand Rapids’ newest crop of restaurants is proof that this city’s culinary landscape is anything but static.
Steakhouses often get saddled with the reputation of being expensive, fancy dinners out. But Scott Ingersoll set out to change that when he opened Prime Casual Steakhouse last year.
Ingersoll, who also owns Mill Creek Tavern, aims to offer quality steakhouse dining like that you might find in a white table cloth restaurant downtown, but at prices that are more reasonable on a wallet. And that shows on the menu, where a diner can purchase a $42 8-ounce Wagyu flatiron steak with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The menu also includes a 20-ounce Delmonico ribeye for $60. The petite filet comes in at $38.
Along with steaks, the menu also includes items like king crab, slab bacon, shrimp cocktail, roasted chicken, salmon and pork shank lollipops.
