We know. Burger Week was months ago. And yet, somehow, we never told you who won.

So, at long last, allow us to correct that: The winner of Grand Rapids Burger Week is Brad Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald didn’t exactly phone it in. While plenty of people used Burger Week as an excuse to grab a good deal on a burger or two, he and his wife turned the whole thing into a weeklong food adventure.

“My wife and I don’t go out to eat very often, but because Burger Week turned it into a fun challenge, we made it a point to hit every single stop,” Fitzgerald said. “She joined me for every visit except the two days where I squeezed in a third stop, and honestly, this award was only possible because she was all in with me the entire week.”

Every stop required a little planning.

“Planning it felt like a little food focused marathon — mapping out routes, timing windows, and stacking two burgers a day (with a couple three stop days),” Fitzgerald said.

And the best part? The challenge introduced them to some places they hadn’t visited before.

“Along the way we found a few spots we hadn’t tried before, and we already know we’ll be going back to those in the near future.”

That’s pretty much exactly what we hoped Burger Week would do.

The event gave Grand Rapids burger fans an excuse to get out, explore restaurants they already love and discover a few new ones along the way. Participating restaurants served up limited-time burger specials, with the Burger Week app helping diners find the stops, check out the offerings and keep track of their progress.

Congratulations, Brad. And congratulations to everyone who made it through Burger Week.

Now we’ve got another week of eating to worry about.

Taco ’bout a great deal!

Grand Rapids Taco Week runs Oct. 12–18, bringing the same spirit of culinary exploration to one of the city’s other great food groups.

This time, we’re talking $3 taco specials from participating restaurants, each putting its own spin on the taco.

So far, Barrio, Condado Tacos & Tequila, El Globo, Ja Jefa Taqueria, Tamales Mary and The Holiday Bar are signed up to compete, with more potentially joining the lineup.

The premise is simple: Each restaurant gets to make its case with a taco special, and you get to decide how many stops you can squeeze into one week.

Download the Taco Week app to see participating restaurants, check out the specials and start planning your taco tour.
