Crimson leaves whisper and chatter to their olive color neighbors who are rattling their basil leaves in a stand of white trees with Dalmatian dots like confetti in the wind. The color show is a must-see and when Indian Summer arrives, she’s a show stopper.
I know this because atop the Mountain at Boyne I saw travelers from around the globe gazing as far as the eye can see, and beyond. They ponied up to claim their tickets to ride the chairlift to the Skybridge. They needed to get up close and personal with these magnificent sage and pear-colored beauties.
Don’t forget raspberry and marmalade. Oh, how I wish I had sea legs for such height adventures. Not to worry, I took a guided ride on the ground as my daughter in law took the reins for the “big girl” stuff. I felt at home admiring the comfortable straw sofas set up for guests to relax and enjoy their delicious food truck offerings, pumpkin spice, and the view.
While Kelly was braving the Skybridge, this girl was squired down to Deer Lake and The Beach House where I enjoyed my last fun foray albeit, in the summer. The beach was still calling, yet a few. “Don’t give up on me now!” So, they didn’t.
One sun Goddess was sprawled out on the dock near the Beach House restaurant while two others dug their feet in the sand. The image was like a painting with the azure-colored lake forming sun diamonds on top. “Golf Girl” hit the green with my new putter custom fitted by David McWharter at a sister course, Boyne Highlands.
Dave put me through my paces in May and got me every club under the sun and I love them. I even starting to name them, my favorite so far is “Joe Dirt”! Golf isn’t great there by accident. It’s great by design under the tutelage of Senior Vice President of Golf Operations, Bernie Friedrich. That is, PGA Golf Executive of the year as voted by the PGA in 2023. It’s a big deal and Boyne is all about family and fun.
You can not go anywhere on property and not find something to do: zipline, skiing, swimming, hot tubbing, riding, golfing, shopping, dining, and this is a partial list. Let’s say you don’t want to do anything. They’ve got that too. It’s called Chalet Edelweiss and it has a spa, a lounge, a view of all of the aforementioned and beds made to make you sleep like the dead. Or, at least not knowing where you are when you awake!
Rewind, unwind, wind up or design the whole shooting match your way with the help of the Concierge and the many guides on hand for each sport. I never have enough of Boyne Moutain and all of her vast array of offerings. It’s safe to say I have proven this over the years.
As autumn turns to winter my mind will wander to the Snowflake Lounge and all the fun that little gem has to offer. In the here and now, I will remain in the heated pool looking up to the beautiful cotton candy sky, with love in my heart and the promise to bop up to Boyne with the whole family, when golf opens, of course!
