The Humane Society of West Michigan is kicking off the holiday season with a series of events and fundraising campaigns aimed at finding loving homes for shelter pets.

Throughout the month of December, the organization is offering a variety of ways for the community to get involved and support animals in need. HSWM’s holiday efforts include the Stocking Sponsor Campaign, an adoption special, and a festive event aimed at spreading holiday cheer.

Stocking Sponsor Campaign

From December 4 through December 25, the Humane Society is inviting supporters to sponsor a stocking filled with toys and treats for shelter animals. The sponsorship options are $50 to sponsor a dog’s stocking, $35 for a cat’s stocking, and $25 for a small animal’s stocking. For $100, donors can sponsor one of each type of animal. On Christmas Day, sponsored animals will receive their stockings, and donors will receive a photo and story of the animal they sponsored. The campaign aims to bring extra joy to animals in the shelter this holiday season. Donations can be made online at https://www.hswestmi.org/stockings.html.

“Home for the Holidays” Adoption Special

To help more animals find their forever homes, HSWM is hosting a “Home for the Holidays” adoption special from December 10 through December 31. During this time, all animals six months and older will have 50% off their adoption fees. In addition, on December 14, the shelter will host a Free Adoption Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., where adoption fees for animals six months and older will be waived entirely. HSWM’s goal is to see its shelter empty by the New Year, with the help of the community, and all adoption fees for eligible pets will be reduced or waived during the special event.

Santa Paws & Claws Event

On Saturday, December 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Humane Society will host its annual Santa Paws & Claws event, inviting the public to bring their dogs and families to the shelter for a festive evening. Guests will be able to enjoy a dazzling holiday lights display on the HSWM property and take photos with Santa Claus. In addition to the community event, a special opportunity will be provided for shelter dogs and more reactive dogs to walk through the lights display and meet Santa in a calm, controlled environment. This special day is designed to give animals who may not typically enjoy crowded events a chance to experience the holiday cheer in a low-stress setting.
