A group of local artists will celebrate the release of their first album as a label.

616 Records will debut its first extended play (EP) project, titled “616 EP,” with a release party from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at Muse GR, at 727 Leonard St. NW in Grand Rapids.

The catered event features live performances by the artists, including rapper and 616 CEO Teyland. Other artists include rapper Xander Taylor and R&B singer Shane Edwards. An after-party will follow the performances.

Admission to this event is $20.

As an EP record, “616 EP” is an album shorter than a full-length record but more substantial than a single release. The album will introduce listeners to the collaboration’s range and musical style through a short list of songs that showcase what they bring to the musical scene.

“616 EP” was produced and engineered by Isaiah Phillips and follows three previous EPs from the artists: “Jukebox” by Taylor, ‘Black Heart” by Edwards and “The Teyland EP” by Teyland.

“This hip-hop event is made by and for Grand Rapids’ very own entrepreneurs, rappers, producers and influencers,” Teyland said. “The show will be the first time the 616 EP will be performed live and will kick off future shows and events from 616 for the rest of the year.”

616 Records was founded in 2018 by Teyland with the mission of uniting the Grand Rapids musical scene. The label started with only two artists, Teyland and producer/engineer ZayPhillz. The label added six more members to the team in 2020.

The label offers audio engineering/production, design, photography and music of hip-hop/R&B genres.
