An indie comedy-drama by a local film producer will make its way to the big screen.

Sundance Film Festival producer and Grand Rapids resident Jash’d Belcher’s “Death of a Telemarketer” will be released by Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions.

The film is about a telemarketer who “finds himself at the mercy of the man he tried to swindle and must pass a twisted test on ethics if he wants to live to sell another day.”

The movie stars Lamorne Morris from “New Girl,” Alisha Wainwright from “Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments” and Oscar-nominated actors Haley Joel Osment and Jackie Earle Haley.

“Death of a Telemarketer” won the Fan Favorite Film Award at the American Black Film Festival last year.

Belcher is the vice president of Datari Turner Productions. He has produced five feature films, including “A Boy. A Girl. A Dream,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Two of his films were nominated for festival awards.
