Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital recently launched “Rehabilitationships,” a new podcast exploring the intersections of rehabilitation and human relationships.
Each month, the podcast will feature patients and clinicians who share journeys of recovery.
“We set out to discover and share what it really takes to recover from life-altering injuries and conditions,” said host Chris Mills, Mary Free Bed’s media and external relations specialist. “That’s where this podcast got its start, and there’s so many stories we are excited to share with this podcast.”
Mills said the idea for the podcast was a “natural step” for some of the inspiring patient stories he comes across.
“We’ve found lots of ways to share patient stories, but long-form storytelling through a podcast was a missing piece,” Mills said.
Mary Free Bed is collaborating with Phil Tower, veteran radio personality and former host and program director at Wood Radio, for “Rehabilitationships.” Tower helps clients launch new podcasts through his company GrandCast Media.
“Working with Mary Free Bed to help start this podcast has been so exciting,” Tower said. “Podcast storytelling is by far the most honest and intimate way to connect with people, and I’ve not seen a podcast like this out there.”
Mills said the goal of the podcast is to educate and inspire listeners, though he said he also has found inspiring moments himself.
“It’s very rewarding to help somebody share their story,” Mills said.
Recent and upcoming episodes feature a cricket farmer who sustained a spinal cord injury but learned to walk again, a mother of eight who started running to raise awareness for the global water crisis and an engineer who changed careers to become the CEO of a hospital.
“Rehabilitationships” will have new episodes released monthly and is available for streaming on most podcast platforms.
