A beloved vintage book store is embarking on an exciting new chapter with the grand opening of its Creative Art Studio. Slated to open on January 23, 24, and 25, the new space at A House of Books, 3151 Broadway Ave SW, Grandville, offers an interactive and unique “cafe-style” art experience for those looking to explore their creativity in a relaxed, social atmosphere.

Perfect for friends and groups with varying interests and skill levels, the Creative Art Studio allows guests to choose from a menu of diverse artistic activities. Whether you’re interested in journal making, painting, foiling, or even Book Nook creation — a class that has previously drawn enthusiastic crowds — the studio has something for everyone.

Founded in 2016, A House of Books began by specializing in repurposing vintage books and other materials into unique home decor and art. The store’s offerings range from books and journals to fabric scraps and sewing notions. Known for its creative spirit and sustainability focus, A House of Books continues to evolve as a hub for art, craft, and community in Grandville.

“The business started with a mission to save books from going to our landfills. This has expanded into vintage fabrics, sewing notions, photos, old paper and so much more. We take items that would typically be discarded and give them a new life in art and home decor. It was time for a rebranding to represent everything we do and it worked out to coincide it with our Creative Art Studio opening. ” said Amber Skiles, owner of A House of Books.

A Place to Learn, Create, and Connect
The new studio space is designed to be flexible, with tables of various sizes to accommodate groups or solo creators. Guests can select materials for their projects from a paper and fabric bar stocked with scrap supplies. The studio’s renovations are nearing completion, with final touches on lighting and curb appeal underway, ensuring a bright and welcoming space.

After being seated at your table, each person will choose from a menu of different options. Activities can range from journal making, painting, foiling and so much more. They will also have Book Nook making which has been a popular class in the past.

As part of their expanded offerings, A House of Books is partnering with local artisans and makers to feature exclusive “menu items” for the art studio. These collaborations will also allow local creatives to showcase and sell their work in the store’s pop-up space.

A Legacy of Repurposing and Creativity

A House of Books has been a staple in the Grandville community since 2016, with a mission to repurpose forgotten books into home decor and art. What began as a way to reuse vintage books — often transforming them into journals, collages, or mixed media pieces — has grown to include an ever-expanding range of materials, from fabric scraps to old photographs and sewing notions. The store’s dedication to sustainability has struck a chord with both artists and book lovers alike.

The addition of the Creative Art Studio marks the latest evolution of A House of Books, as it continues to blend its love for literature with a creative spirit. Despite this new venture, the store assures its loyal customers that the vintage book section — filled with an abundance of carefully curated titles — will remain a focal point of the business.

“Books will always be our priority, but we’re excited to add this new dimension to our store,” said Skiles. “We want to offer a space for people to not only enjoy our books but also to learn, create, and find inspiration.”
