A rustic camp resort in Rockford gained international attention.
Detach Primitive, at 3981 Summit Court NE in Rockford, recently was featured in the inaugural issue of Vogue Living-Netherlands. The magazine featured a 27-page article about the campground and the story behind the primitive, off-grid destination.
Detach Primitive opened in December 2021 and offers year-round, off-grid camping experiences.
Accommodations come in the form of tents and A-frame cabins, as well as a yurt and underground “hobbit” housing currently under construction. Amenities include drinking water from a hand pump, picnic tables, firewood and more.
Detach runs alongside White Pine Trail, making it ideal for summer hiking or snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter.
The idea for a rustic campground originated with husband/wife duo Sara Stout and Jarred Sper. They created Detach in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Realizing they had plenty of time and space to build their dream of turning their backyard into a retreat, they installed their first yurt. From there, the couple expanded their team and began constructing their now 50-acre campground.
Stout and Sper said they plan to add space for outdoor events such as weddings and live entertainment.
