A new venue is set to host events on the southeast side of Grand Rapids.

The 1530 will celebrate the grand opening of its newly renovated space from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Grand Rapids Center for Community Transformation (GRCCT) building, at 1530 Madison Ave. SE.

Amanda Jones, director of events at The 1530, said southeast Grand Rapids didn’t have a space to accommodate large events, and GRCCT wanted to meet that need.

“This is a space where folks can come and gather,” Jones said. “The objective of the space is to serve as a venue where community members and those outside of the community are able to come and get the same experience that they would at event centers downtown.”

The venue consists of separate spaces to accommodate different kinds of events. Its largest space is the Madison Ballroom, a 320-person room with a bar and access to a kitchen and deck.

The 1530 also is home to a rooftop deck and garden, community room and lounge with a loft area. All areas of the venue are ADA accessible with elevator access.

The space within the GRCCT building sat empty prior to hosting the event center. Jones said the idea to create an event center came just before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Now, the space is renovated and ready to accommodate weddings, fundraisers and graduation open houses.

Those who want to inquire about using the space can email events@grcct.com.
