Rak Thai is tapping into a viral food trend to satisfy the public’s sweet tooth.
Yace Hang, owner of Rak Thai, located inside the Grand Rapids Downtown Market at 435 Ionia Ave. SW, will launch mochi doughnuts as a new menu item at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12.
“Mochi (doughnuts) are the sweets that have been taking Tik Tok and social media by storm,” Hang said. “Since expanding our bubble tea operations, we wanted something to complement the drinks, so (we thought) these sweet treats would be a perfect addition. Plus, we wanted to introduce something not available in West Michigan, let alone the Midwest.”
The doughnut flavors will change based on demand, with the following flavors available at launch: Strawberry Crunch, Orea, Cinnamon Sugar, Matcha Strawberry, Coconut Dream, Fruity Taro and Mango Delight.
The doughnuts, including the glazes and toppings, will be made fresh from scratch in-house each morning.
They will be available for dine-in at the market, takeout and delivery through the third-party apps Grubhub, UberEats and Doordash.
