A 17,000-square-foot pickleball court facility marks a significant addition to the local sports scene. Blending elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, the racket sport continues its meteoric rise with over 13.6 million players nationwide, solidifying its status as America’s fastest-growing sport.
“Part of the popularity is that the sport appeals to all ages,” said Chuck Osterink, president of MVP Sports Clubs. “From kids taking their first swing to seasoned players with a competitive spirit, we are seeing a large range of age and ability on the courts. I think that’s part of the draw, it is a fun, social sport that’s easy for beginners to learn.”
The new pickleball facility is located at the MVP Sports Club located at 115 Crahen Ave. NE. It features six indoor courts, boasting the most indoor courts under one roof in the area. In addition, there are six new outdoor courts, designed exclusively for pickleball. Previously, members used three tennis courts with temporary nets, making this dedicated space a major draw for enthusiasts with 15 pickleball courts total.
MVP offers a full spectrum of pickleball programming, including lessons, ladder leagues, and tournaments throughout August and September. Open daily, the courts cater to both new and seasoned players. Access requires the All-Star membership package, part of MVP’s broader network of five clubs serving over 25,000 members across West Michigan.
With year-round indoor courts and seasonal outdoor play, the facility is set to host instructional drills, open play, private lessons, and social events, making it a hub for the growing pickleball community in Grand Rapids.
