A local nonprofit association is hosting a colorful fundraiser to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect.
Michigan Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) For Children will host Stronger with BLUE, its first in-person fundraising event since 2019, at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Thousand Oaks Golf Club, at 4100 Thousand Oaks Drive NE in Grand Rapids.
The event is in observance of April as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month, which is represented by the color blue.
Blues music, blue decor and blue-themed auction prizes will add to the theme. Attendees also are encouraged to wear blue to show their support.
Michigan CASA Director of Operations Jennifer Collins said she hopes the event will raise more awareness of abused and neglected children and help with the organization’s goal of increasing the number of volunteers and local programs across the state.
“Being able to be back in person is exciting, and the more we can spread the word about the mission of CASA, the better,” Collins said. “Our goal is always to serve more children.”
District Judge Sara Smolenski will serve as the emcee, and former state Sen. Peter MacGregor will receive the first-ever Michigan CASA Child Advocate of the Year Award.
Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and the program starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets and more information are here.
