Thinking about your New Year’s resolutions? GR|MAG asked its contributors to share something they are looking forward to trying or checking out in Grand Rapids in 2019. Feel free to steal their ideas or share your own in the comments.
“In 2019, I hope to take more time to read each day. There are so many books on my list that I haven’t gotten to yet. Plus, Grand Rapids has so many great libraries and local bookstores to check out!” – Megan Sarnacki
“I’m looking forward to attending the 2019 TEDxGrand Rapids. After a four-year hiatus, the all-day event returns this summer to bring together people who want to think about how to make a difference now and into the future of Grand Rapids.” – Steven Depolo.
“As a wedding photographer, I’m looking forward to shooting weddings in 2019 at some awesome local venues, including The Cheyney Place & the Downtown Market.” – Tylee Shay
“With only a few vague memories of running around the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum as a kid, this year I realized that it’s been so long since I’ve visited any of the museums here in Grand Rapids. I decided that one of my goals for 2019 is to become a more frequent museum-goer. I especially want to check out the new ‘Toys!’ exhibit at the Grand Rapids Public Museum – it seems like such a gratifying blend of pop culture and nostalgia.” – Kayleigh Fongers
“‘The Book of Mormon’ is coming to DeVos Performance Hall in March. I’ve never seen the show and never had a chance to visit the venue. I’m excited to check it out.” – Sam Easter
“I’m done talking about visiting the barn sales of Jessica & Co. Vintage. No more talk, just action. The picker chick and outdoor lover creates shopping opportunities in her reclaimed barn in Byron Center. It’s filled with items she’s scored from back roads, lost farm houses and trash to treasure collections. She hosts spring, fall and occasional summertime events—but her Christmas sales are straight up winter wonderland. Think snow-kissed, berry packed, rustic embellished natural peace on earth. It could legit be mistaken for a Christmas scene on Little House on the Prairie.” – Missy Black
“I’m definitely a summer person, so I can’t wait for the warm weather to return. As soon as it does, I’ll be heading to Haute at New Hotel Merten’s for cocktails.” – Charlsie Dewey, GR|MAG editor
