GR|Mag is looking for digital media interns for the fall semester. We are looking for students in their junior or senior year, preferably earning college credit for their internship.
Who should apply?
We are looking for college students that are enthusiastic about downtown Grand Rapids and want to help others celebrate the city’s arts, entertainment, culture, lifestyle, dining and nightlife offerings.
GR|Mag is focused on highlighting all the fun things going on in downtown Grand Rapids and surrounding communities. Think restaurant openings, new boutiques, Beer City news, outdoor adventures, interesting people working to put Grand Rapids on the map, and more. The new website will be the go-to place to find out what’s happening in Grand Rapids.
We are looking for 2-3 enthusiastic interns for the fall semester who are interested in learning about digital media and building a portfolio of published work. Interns will be asked to assist the digital editor with a variety of tasks, which may include:
- writing short pieces for the website
- research
- interviews with sources
- communicating with PR professionals, writers and photographers
- generating ideas for stories
- attending events
- sitting in on meetings
- being a positive presence in the chaos
Internship Goals
Interns will also have the opportunity to take on more substantial reported assignments based on proven ability as the semester progresses. Successful interns will walk away with a portfolio of work and a thorough understanding of how a small independent digital magazine operates.
The internship is unpaid, however, interns will have the opportunity to receive compensation for published articles meeting specific criteria.
Internships will require three to 10 hours per week and are flexible. Schedules will be worked out based on availability.
Interested candidates should contact Lisa Enos, editor, at lenos@grmag.com to receive the full internship description and to apply.
