A soda pop and candy shop franchise with locations in downtown Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo plans to open a toy store for holiday shoppers.
Rocket Fizz will open a pop-up toy store on Black Friday, Nov. 26, through the end of 2021 in the former AT&T store at 125 S. Kalamazoo Mall in Kalamazoo.
The company has operated a soda and candy shop in Kalamazoo since March 2018, offering a variety of classic and imported candy, more than 500 varieties of soda pop, concert posters, gag gifts and tin signs. Owners Tom and Heather Holmer said they are excited to serve Kalamazoo with additional gift options ahead of the holiday season.
“There are so many toys and gifts that are available to us through our vendors that we just don’t have the room to carry in our shop,” Tom Holmer said. “With the concerns over supply chains and logistics this year, we feel like we can help folks fulfill their holiday wish lists and have a little fun along the way.”
The pop-up toy store will offer modern, classic and retro toys, including educational toys. After Black Friday opening, shoppers can visit the store 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday and noon-6 p.m. Sunday.
“One of the best parts of the candy store is watching parents and grandparents bond with the little ones over the candies of their youth,” Holmer said. “We feel like we can bring that same energy with toys, combined with all the whimsy and never-ending streams of dad jokes that Rocket Fizz is known for.”
