Holland’s Big Lake Brewing announced a $2,500 donation to Holland Hospital in proceeds from sales of the brewery’s specially crafted Healthcare Heroes beer.
The limited-edition beer was sold in four-packs at Big Lake’s Seventh St. Pub in downtown Holland and at independent retailers statewide. The brewery also donated meals to Holland Hospital in the spring.
Big Lake donates a portion of pub sales to a different charity every month and decided to place a bigger emphasis on the efforts of essential health care employees during the spring and summer months. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Michigan saw more than 107,000 cases and 6,000 deaths as a result of the virus.
“Michigan health care workers placed their lives at risk to serve their neighbors, they went where others wouldn’t, and we wanted to show our appreciation the best way we know how,” said Keith Henry, Big Lake Brewing sales director. “Community is our culture, and this was our way to help raise awareness for our heroes at Holland Hospital.”
Healthcare Heroes was brewed in partnership with Imperial Beverage, Big Lake’s statewide distributor partner, which also made donations to hospitals across the state to celebrate the beer’s release. The beer is a hazy, double New England IPA brewed with mosaic and Idaho 7 hops, coming in at 9% ABV.
Healthcare Heroes followed two other spring/summer beers released by Big Lake to show appreciation and support during the pandemic: Farmer Strong, which emphasized the importance of local food providers, and We’re In This Together, which promoted solidarity among families, neighbors and friends during Michigan’s stay-at-home order.
