City Built Brewing will be hosting a two-night event on Sept. 16-17 to kick off ArtPrize, which will run from Sept. 16 to Oct. 3.

City Built will unveil a large-scale painting called The Sheefy Experience by Sheef, a Detroit artist, from 6-10 p.m. Sept. 16 in its Welcome Center across the street from the brewery. The unveiling will feature a light show, which will be projected inside the Welcome Center. Sheef’s installation is sponsored by Skymint, an Ann Arbor cannabis brand and multi-location dispensary.

There will be live art demonstrations with Grand Rapids DJ, Sángo (SangoBeats.) The work of two other ArtPrize artists, Kaylee Bearss and Arbor Circle will be on display outside. The artwork of three additional ArtPrize artists, Abram Sudan, Ian Burk and Lorina Tayag Capitulo, will be displayed inside the brewery.

“We’re very honored to collaborate with ArtPrize in such a big way. Hosting six artists is a new experience for us so we wanted to go big,” City Built owner, Edwin Collazo, said. “Having Skymint recognize our business and support The Sheefy Experience in the Welcome Center is indicative of the momentum in our neighborhood and the new normal of creating safe outdoor experiences for our community.”

Grand Rapids’ Lady Ace Boogie will headline the finale of Friday Night Live summer music series from 6-11 p.m. Sept. 17. Lady Ace Boogie has performed on stage with Lizzo, A$AP Rocky, TI and Killer Mike of Run the Jewels.

There also will be musical performances by Stone Soup and The Broken Teeth and The Mainstays.

“The entire lineup this year has been as diverse as it has been strong,” Kurt Schmiege, general manager and events coordinator for City Built, said. “We’ve had almost every genre of music on that stage, and that has been very deliberate. For this season’s final show, we wanted it to be the icing on the musical cake.”

In addition to City Built’s food and beer, food vendors Street Chef Shaw and Tamales Mary will be on site at The Welcome Center.
