National Dog Week runs Sept. 20-26, and this year, 27 organizations serving dogs and their owners across West Michigan are coming together for a community event in Grand Rapids.
Bark Fest 2026 will take place Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at K9 Resorts Grand Rapids, 3345 28th St. SE. The free event will bring together local rescue and adoption groups, service dog organizations, veterinary offices, pet-care resources and specialty pet businesses.
The event is intended to give dog owners and prospective pet owners an opportunity to connect with organizations working across different parts of the local dog community. Attendees can meet adoptable dogs, learn about responsible dog ownership and find resources related to pet care and animal welfare.
Participating organizations include the Humane Society of West Michigan, Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue, Golden Retriever Rescue of Michigan, Maybel’s Legacy, Unleashed Love Pet Rescue, Paws With A Cause and Pleasant Hearts Dog Food Pantry, among others.
The participating groups represent a range of services. Rescue organizations will showcase dogs available for adoption, while Pleasant Hearts Dog Food Pantry will share resources for families who need assistance caring for their pets. Paws With A Cause will provide information about its work and opportunities to become a puppy raiser.
For K9 Resorts Grand Rapids owners Megan and Mark Ivaska, the event is also an opportunity to bring several parts of the local dog community together during National Dog Week.
“National Dog Week is a meaningful time to celebrate the bond between people and their dogs,” Megan Ivaska said. “Bark Fest is designed to give our community a direct opportunity to meet adoptable dogs and consider opening their homes to a new family member.”
The event will have a dog-focused farmers market-style setup, with organizations and vendors stationed throughout the space.
Bark Fest is free and open to the public. K9 Resorts Grand Rapids is located at 3345 28th St. SE, adjacent to Woodland Mall.
