ArtPrize enters its second weekend and promises plenty of activities to keep you busy. Make sure to visit your favorite venues and vote for the pieces you’d like to see take home that $200,000 grand prize. The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and Grand Rapids Symphony are just two of the area’s arts & culture organizations getting in on the ArtPrize action this weekend.
ArtPrize is back, which means so is SiTE:LAB. After taking a year hiatus from ArtPrize to regroup, president and director Paul Amenta said it’s good to be back, though he hasn’t fully made the transition from work to play.
To borrow a description from Charles Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities,” 1967 was the best of times and the worst of times in Detroit. Motown music was at its peak. But that was also the year Detroit experienced one of the worst race riots in American history.
ArtPrize Best Venue winner five out of the past six years, SiTE:LAB, is clearly an event favorite, so earlier this summer when the non-profit art organization announced it will not be participating in ArtPrize Nine it was a surprise.
