Blandford Nature Center will be celebrating the life of its late founder Dr. Mary Jane Dockeray between Sept. 8-11 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the center, 715 Hillburn Ave. NW in Grand Rapids.

The four-day event will feature an exhibit about Dockeray’s life and achievements in the auditorium of the Mary Jane Dockeray Visitor.

Dockeray, an environmental enthusiast and educator, was known for taking her slide projector to classroom visits and lectures to show images and tell stories about nature to people of all ages. She was 93 when she passed away on August 18, 2020.

Visitors will be able to view her slides and a documentary about her life, as well as a digitized version of one of her presentations, “These Things are Ours.” Visitors will also have the opportunity to share their memories of Dockeray.

During this four-day exhibit, Blandford’s Historic Buildings will be open from 10 a.m-3 p.m. each day. COVID-19 protocols, including social distancing and required masks for all attendees, will be in place.
