Whether you’re a sports fan, a fan of the horror film genre, or if you just plain love good music you’ll find plenty to do in Grand Rapids this weekend. Here are four things to get you started:

Friday, Oct. 13, 8 p.m.
Friday the 13th Part III in 3D
The Grand Rapids Film Society will present Friday the 13th Part III in 3D on the big screen at Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy St. SE. This iconic horror classic’s third installment features Jason (portrayed by Richard Brooker)  stalking a group of friends who’ve just arrived to spend the weekend at a cabin near Crystal Lake. The 1982 film was directed by Steve Miner, has a running time of 95 minutes, and is rated R. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 if purchased online and $12 at the door. Community Media Centers and Wealthy Theatre Members pay only $8.

Friday, Oct. 13, 7 p.m.
Griffins Hockey opening night at Van Andel Arena, 130 Fulton St. W.
The mighty Grand Rapids Griffins are back in action! Check them out at their season opener Opener— presented by Huntington Bank—against the Colorado Eagles. Special promotions include a magnet giveaway- the first 5,000 fans will receive a 2019-20 Griffins magnet schedule. $2 beers and hot dogs. Doors open at 6 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring ice skates. The rink will be open after the game.

Saturday, Oct. 14
Starfarm at Billy’s, 1437 Wealthy St. SE
This eighties band has everyone dancing to the hits of the big hair era. Wear your track suit (or not) and some comfy shoes. The band goes on at 9:30 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. Cover is $10.

Sunday, Oct. 15
Jazz at Switchback, 2166 Plainfield Ave NE
Hang out, have a beer, and enjoy some easy tunes on a relaxing Sunday evening. Most Jazzy Sundays feature the local band Third Coast Swing, a band “influenced by the music of the late Belgium born Romani Gypsy, Django Reinhardt & His band, The Hot Club Of Paris 1930’-1940’s.” If it’s nice out, things happen on the patio. If not, the jams go on inside at 4 p.m. Reserve your spot here.
