The group that’s been making Grand Rapidians laugh for 25 years is celebrating its anniversary with a special performance.
Next month Gilda’s LaughFest will unveil its headliners for the 2019 “festival of laughter,” but in the meantime, the organization is looking for the city’s funniest individuals to help fill out its roster.
With the eighth annual Gilda’s LaughFest approaching, comedy acts will be stopping by Grand Rapids for a week straight. One act that won’t be leaving though is River City Improv, a group that has spent almost a quarter-century entertaining the city and has shown no signs of slowing down.
As Eirann Betka helped organize the Grand Rapids Improv Festival in the fall of 2015, she noticed there were no female improv troupes signing up to perform. Most of the groups had either all men or only one or two women featured.
