A stationery and gift shop is coming to downtown.

Oh, Hello Co. will celebrate the grand opening of its new location in Grand Rapids, at 40 Monroe Center St. NW.

The celebration will take place on Jan. 11 from 6-9 p.m.

The Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority recently approved a grant application from Oh, Hello Co. owners and husband-and-wife team Alex Benda and Kayla Benda.

The two have been working exclusively online for the past five years prior to opening their first location.

“We are so excited to be moving into the retail space,” Kayla Benda said. “We’ve spent months carefully curating all of the items we will be carrying in our store and are proud to be sharing them with the community.

“We want to be a hub for both Grand Rapidians and visitors to come and find items that suit all tastes.”

The grand-opening celebration will feature light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres from local vendors.

Oh, Hello Co. features a wide variety of items in the store, including Grand Rapids-themed items, cards and gifts. The store can also customize many items with an on-site laser cutter.

“This has been such a labor of love for us,” Alex Benda said. “Beyond just the items we are selling in the store, we will be hosting many classes and trainings in our space, from painting classes to startup workshops.

“This is more than a store. It’s a community space.”

The owners are investing $25,000 into a build out of the space and were approved for about $21,000 in DDA retail grant funds to help offset a portion of lease fees.

The Bendas started Oh, Hello Co. in 2014.
