A local nonprofit will provide $20,000 worth of free teaching supplies in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Week.

The Grand Rapids Public Schools Foundation (GRPSF) will host a teacher appreciation event from 3-7 p.m. Monday-Friday, May 2-6, at The Storehouse, at 4411 Plainfield Ave. NE in Grand Rapids.

Local teachers each will have the opportunity to collect $50 worth of free supplies.

GRPSF is a nonprofit focused on raising and stewarding funds and other resources to support Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) and students.

For this event, GRPSF has partnered with The Storehouse, a Grand Rapids-based nonprofit that procures donations of new, nonperishable products to serve low-income schools, affordable housing nonprofits and workforce development organizations. The Storehouse’s 20,000-square-foot warehouse will be the distribution center for supplies during this event.

The event is limited to GRPS teachers. Teachers are required to register for a one-hour time slot on one day during the week of the event. Those interested in participating will be asked to provide their name, email address, school and the grade level they teach.
