Restaurants are hurting under the COVID-19 pandemic, but businesses are looking for creative ways to safely get food in the hands of customers.
Mertens Hospitality, owner of New Hotel Mertens, planned to launch a new pop-up delivery-only restaurant, 9th St. Steak, later on down the road. But Michigan’s “Stay Home, Stay Safe” order inspired the company to roll it out now.
“COVID-19 has had an impact on every facet of our community. As we searched for ways to be positive in our response to the crisis, it seemed appropriate to accelerate the 9th St. Steak project to help keep our team working and to provide our guests with a new option for comfort food of the highest quality,” Mertens Hospitality owner Anthony Tangorra said. “It so happens the present and the future of our industry is highly accessible, chef-crafted food. Whether it is delivery or to go, that’s what accessible means today.”
9th Street Steaks serves Philly-style cheesesteak sandwiches, housemade fries; hand-cut, beer-battered onion rings; and vanilla, dark milk chocolate and berry milkshakes.
Online ordering is available through Grubhub. Delivery hours are 4-8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 4-9:30 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday.
