Detroit Wing Co. is collaborating with Beyond Meat to introduce plant-based protein tenders to its menu for a limited time.

The Beyond Chicken Tenders, dubbed “Pretendies,” joined Detroit Wing Co.’s menu alongside its regular chicken tenders last week at all 10 of DWC’s restaurant locations across the state, including its Knapp’s Corner location at 2004 East Beltline Ave. NE in Grand Rapids.

The meat-like tenders are crafted to look and taste like DWC’s original chicken tenders — with crispy breading, meaty texture and smothered in any of DWC’S 19 handcrafted sauces — and are made from plant-based ingredients without GMOs, antibiotics, hormones or cholesterol and contain 14 grams of plant-based protein per serving.

“For years, our customers have expressed an appetite for a plant-based option in addition to our regular chicken-based menu items,” said Gus Malliaras, founder, Detroit Wing Co. “We feel we’ve hit the mark with these great-tasting tenders from Beyond Meat.”

The Pretendies will be available for a limited time and can be ordered in six-, eight- or 12-piece quantities while supplies last.

Detroit Wing Co. opened in 2015 and has since been named the best spot for wings in Michigan by Esquire Magazine, Men’s Health Magazine, MSNBC and INSIDER.com. It has repeatedly been awarded “Best Chicken Wings” by the readers of Hour Detroit Magazine, a sister publication of the Grand Rapids Business Journal and Grand Rapids Magazine.

The restaurant chain has eight locations in metro Detroit, one in Grand Blanc and one in Grand Rapids, with others coming soon to Allen Park and Traverse City.

Detroit Wing Co. is open daily at 11 a.m., serving lunch and dinner.
