A local brewery is bringing back a fan favorite.

Grand Rapids-based Founders Brewing Co. will re-release its Underground Mountain Brown as the fourth release in its 2019 Barrel-Aged Series, according to the brewery this week.

Underground Mountain Brown was first released on draft as a taproom exclusive several years ago under the name Barrel-Aged Sumatra Mountain Brown and “quickly developed a passionate fan following.”

The limited-edition brew is a barrel-aged version of Sumatra Mountain Brown, the brewery’s retired imperial brown ale.

“Over the past few years, our fans have been very vocal about asking us to bottle and distribute it, and we’re so happy to make it happen,” said Dave Engbers, co-founder and president, Founders Brewing Co.

Underground Mountain Brown has an ABV of 11.9% and features Sumatra coffee roasted by Ferris Coffee & Nut in Grand Rapids.

It will be available in both the Grand Rapids and Detroit taprooms beginning on Aug. 16 and will start shipping to other states later in August.

The brown ale will be available on draft, in four-packs of 12-oz bottles and 750-ml bottles.
