A box lunch delivery and catering franchise is celebrating three years by giving back to its customers in a delicious way.
Nancy and Mike Jacobs, the husband-and-wife co-owners of Apple Spice Box Lunch & Catering Co. in Byron Center, are celebrating their third anniversary in business Monday, June 27.
Customers who stop in between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. at their location, at 701 68th St. SW in Byron Center, will receive a free Apple Spice chocolate chip cookie while supplies last.
Apple Spice Box Lunch Delivery & Catering Co. is a provider of individually packaged fresh salads, sandwiches and hot breakfast and lunch for local businesses. Its bread is baked from scratch daily, and the franchise offers house-made side dishes, dressings and catering.
The Jacobs said they feel blessed to be one of the “good-news stories” in the food industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only did their delivery model thrive, but they were able to retain their staff and add positions during the past three years, they said.
Before opening their location in June 2019, the pair had never owned a business, but it had been one of their lifelong dreams. With their children grown, they decided to go for it.
Just nine months later, COVID shut down the world, and almost overnight, their catering business dried up. However, they threw their energy into their box lunch and salad offerings, and Nancy Jacobs worked with the local business community to provide essential warehouses, factories, doctor’s offices and hospitals with lunches for their employees. In the process, they expanded their customer base.
Now, three years into their operation, they are focusing on “engaging those reopening businesses to provide the same great food and customer service to a whole new range of customers,” they said.
Focusing strictly on delivery, with no dining room, the Jacobs said they pride themselves on ensuring “safety, accuracy and quality, from preparation to on-time delivery,” using their own staff and no third-party delivery couriers.
