To commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Studio Park will screen a new film about former President Barack Obama.

The three-part HBO documentary series “Obama: In Pursuit of a More Perfect Union” will be shown Jan. 17-18 at Studio Park, 123 Ionia Ave. SW in Grand Rapids.

The three episodes tell the story of Obama’s personal and political journey. The series begins with Obama’s childhood and takes viewers through his perspective as the son of a white mother from Kansas and and African father, his spiritual formation by a generation of Black leaders and his hopes of a more unified country.

The first two episodes will be shown at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17. The third and final episode will be shown at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 18. There will be a panel discussion afterward.

The Greater Grand Rapids National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is hosting this free event. Participants must RSVP here.
