Mark your calendars! The East Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department has announced the lineup for its summer entertainment series, Concerts and Movies in the Park, set to take place at John Collins Park. The free events, sponsored by The Brouwers Agency, Auto-Owners Insurance, and Friends of the EGR Library, will be held on select Monday and Friday evenings at the park, located at 650 Lakeside Drive SE, East Grand Rapids. Concerts in the Park will feature musical performances, while Movies in the Park will showcase family-friendly films.

“We enjoy announcing the unofficial arrival of summer with our Concerts and Movies lineups,” said Rachel Fiedler, leisure supervisor. “These community-favorite events are made possible through the help of our sponsors, The Brouwers Agency, Auto-Owners Insurance and Friends of the EGR Library. We are excited to help create fun summertime memories for community members at the picturesque John Collins Park.”

John Collins Park is part of the city’s social district, which allows attendees aged 21 and older to consume alcoholic beverages purchased from qualified Gaslight Village establishments within the designated zone. Beverages must be consumed in branded social district cups. The social district will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the summer season, which runs from the first Monday after the end of the East Grand Rapids Public Schools academic year in June through the first Sunday before the start of the next school year in August.

“The Parks and Recreation team works hard all year to secure incredible musicians and popular movies for everyone to enjoy,” said Pam Slater, East Grand Rapids leisure supervisor. “We encourage our community to come out and enjoy a concert or movie. Nothing says summer in East more than a beautiful evening on Reeds Lake enjoyed with friends and neighbors.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets and to arrive early to secure a spot. Barbecues, grills, and open fires are not allowed, and dogs must be leashed.

Concerts in the Park will be held on six Monday evenings in June and July from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The scheduled performers are:

  • June 10 – Yacht Rocket
  • June 17 – Rags and Riches
  • June 24 – Coty Bouchard
  • July 8 – St. Sinner Orchestra
  • July 15 – On The Lash
  • July 22 – Deerfield Run

Movies in the Park will be held on four Friday evenings, with each film beginning at sundown. The movie lineup is:

  • June 14 – “Shazam”
  • June 28 – “Barbie”
  • July 12 – “Elemental”
  • Aug. 2 – “Wonka” (2023)

In the event of rain or high winds, the events will be canceled and not rescheduled. Updates will be provided on the Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page.
