Bodies of Art fashion show KCAD

This weekend features an “extravagant” fashion show in the Wealthy Street neighborhood — and much more.

Bodies of Art (Saturday)

The next generation of fashion designers are showing off their creations at a red-carpet-themed fashion show.

Students will show a look or collection they created for the 15th anniversary of Bodies of Art, a group at the Kendall College of Art and Design. It will feature concessions and live performances by Hi-Ker and INTERSPACE. Black tie is suggested, but “feel free to come in whatever makes you feel fanciest.”

The two-hour event is Jan. 26 at Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids, at 1130 Wealthy St. SE. Doors open at 7 p.m. The show is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10-$20. Photo via fb.com

Michigan’s 182nd Birthday Party (Saturday and Sunday)

Founders Brewing Co. taproom taps beer pitchersA staple of Grand Rapids’ brewery scene is celebrating all things Michigan.

Founders Brewing Co. will throw a party for The Mitten’s 182nd birthday during the final days of its 2019 Cellar Raid. It will feature live performances by Michigan artists like Lady Ace Boogie, Last Gasp Collective and Chris Good and the Sweet Insurrection — as well as the Lumberjack Sandwich special, starting at noon: a solid gold-brined Michigan pork chop, topped with Robinette’s apple slaw, on top of a Nantucket Baking roll with Traverse City cherry aioli; Better Made potato chips; and a 12-ounce Vernors.

The expo will feature a number of physical, interactive and educational activities: zip line, inflatable obstacle course, bounce houses, art wall zone, smoke house for fire safety, puppet theater, Home Depot Kids Workshop, live performances and more. There will also be Family Fun Bucket Prizes that include free tickets and certificates for activities, attractions and restaurants.
