The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum debuted its newly designed mobile museum for youngsters called Kids Can! Van.
The full-size cargo van can hold small-scale exhibits and host activities for guests.
The interior of the van is under construction, but it will soon be the home for different programs, travel exhibits and hands-on activities.
Starting Monday, Kids Can! Van will travel to meal distribution sites across the city and provide play@home kits to 1,250 children who face transportation challenges that prevent them from visiting the museum.
The kits may include materials like chalk, bubbles, jump ropes, books and markers so children can play at home and outside while the museum is temporarily closed.
Jodi Rector, a Hudsonville mom, named the van after she won a statewide contest.
