Plans are in the works for a new zipping and soaring experience in Allegan.
Allegan Event, Michigan’s largest indoor ropes course, is moving its zip line from Riverfront Park in Allegan to its outdoor center about a mile away. Centrally located 30 minutes from Grand Rapids, Holland and Kalamazoo, the indoor and outdoor event center, located at 439 River St., draws thousands of people to the city each year.
“In 2017, the city began partnering with Allegan Event to create a hub of activity in Allegan. We are thrilled by this global company that champions Allegan as its home and look forward to continuing to work with them in making Allegan a destination city,” said Allegan City Manager Joel Dye.
The zip line, which allowed thrillseekers to soar across the Kalamazoo River in downtown Allegan, will have a new look and be expanded with even more zip experiences. In addition to the zip line, Allegan Event features an outdoor maze, an arcade, a food and beverage area and rooms for private parties.
“Although we will miss the downtown vibe, the outdoor expansion plan at Allegan Event will allow us to have a unique indoor and outdoor family adventure experience that we can’t wait to share with everyone,” said Michelle Liggett, owner of Allegan Event.
The relocation of the zip line towers will allow the city the opportunity to continue to enhance the Riverfront Park area. City officials are seeking input from the community on ways to reinvent the space.
The timeline for the opening of the new zip line is not yet firm, but it’s expected to be completed some time this year, said a spokesperson for the company.
